A while ago, we told Lorien that she could get a Princess big girl bed when she could sleep by herself all night. She has been coming into our bed ever since she could walk (and before that she would cry till I got her). It was always between 1:00am and 5:00am. So I bought this sleep training book (the cheepest at the used book store). It had some really good ideas and great insite to how kids sleep and adults sleep and the sleep cycle and all that good stuff. So since I've been very committed and stopped sitting by her bed till she fell asleep and took her back to her bed even if she cried, she has managed to sleep in her bed from 9:00pm till 8:30am. I am so glad she has finally become a big girl. Another idea I liked in the book was that how she felt during the day would effect how she slept at night. For instance if I kept her busy doing things she liked to do and that would boost her self confidence, then she would be able to have enough confidence in herself at night to stay in her bed. I guess to find comfort in herself rather than others. It has also helped her independance. Which as you know can be good and bad. The new thing she likes to say is "No it isn't" when I say anything like "It's very cold outside" or she says "No it doesn't" when I say it takes a long time to do something. She definately knows a lot now that she's a big girl!
